NEW
by Don Brice
Website Researcher

Erin Davis from Melbourne is in photographic terms "a new kid on the block" but has fearlessly thrown herself into behind the scenes work for the ACMP. We asked Erin a few questions about herself.

Erin, what will you be doing for ACMP?

I've recently been appointed as researcher and administrator for the ACMP website. Until now Tony Page, who was responsible for developing the site, has borne the weight of updates and maintenance single handedly. I will be working closely with Tony, basically assisting him with maintaining the website and keeping the members database up to date. I will spend some time researching issues and collecting information from state directors.

Have you always been a photographer?

No! I am actually a qualified hairdresser who fell in love with photography. I was only a few years I into my hairdressing career when I decided I wanted to become a photographer. So I went back to school and studied at the ICPP, a private college in South Melbourne. When I came out with a diploma in photography in 1998, I felt that it had been an achievement. However the real achievement was still to come. Actually surviving and making it happen. A limited cash flow and a new career in photography don't go together very well.

So was it the right decision?

Yes. At last I feel like I'm finally coming out of the woods. I've been working on my own freelance business for the last 6 months. A real highlight of 1999 was having a print accepted into the ACMP Fuji Collection for the first time. That was very exciting. The sort of work I do consists of portraiture, fashion, advertising, architecture, product and landscapes. In other words, a little bit of everything at this stage. I regularly assist Industrial / Commercial photographer Guy Little, and on occasions I work with Michael Coyne and Andrew Warn.

Who are your photographic heroes?

There are too many talented photographers/artists whose work I admire. But, the some of the photographs I admire most are the works of Sally Mann, Bill Henson, Ansel Adams and Athol Smith. By the way, I'm the photographer responsible for making ACMP Victorian Director Guy Little look very much like Errol Flynn! (Whew! You must be good! check him out at www.acmp.com.au. or in the last issue of ACMPNews.-Ed.) Oh, and thankyou Guy, for everything.

Thanks a lot Erin, on behalf of all the members, and all the best for the new job.
