Your
Future: The illiterate of the 21st Century won't be those who can't read and write, but those who can't learn, unlearn and relearn. So said Alvin Tofler a few years ago, and believe me, Alvin Tofler is no plonker. We're only a few short months from the 21 st Century, and many of us in the photographic profession are well aware of how our markets and prospects are changing, and how new technologies are altering our clients' demand for our skills. So what do you do about it? There is no future in just carrying on in the same way as before, because that way lies stagnation and decline, maybe even an involuntary change of career. Tackle it head-on. Find out how new (usually digital) technology can not only help your turnover but also create additional business. Learn new marketing skills. Discover how last years change in the copyright laws can generate more income. If you've been to the Montalbetti + Campbell seminars you'll have experienced first hand how they've learnt to take control of the marketing of their images and how it's benefited their business and their reputation. If you missed them. tough luck. Get to see them next time, because I don't know a single photographer who hasn't left the seminar inspired by their business philosophy and a determination to learn from their ideas. Next on the agenda will be the Robyn Robins seminars. The ACMP ran these very successfully in Melbourne last year, so much so that we will be setting them up in Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne (again) and Sydney in the next few months. They cover all aspects of Marketing from client management to presentation skills, setting and achieving goals, and creating work. Ask anyone who attended them in Victoria and they'll tell you that they have been invaluable. Our future, individually and as a profession is in how well educated we are, and how well we can learn, unlearn and relearn. Maybe you reckon
you've heard all this before, and it's just like de-ja-vu all over again?
Well, if this sounds like hard work and you're thinking that these seminars
take up too much time and cost too much, here is a quote from Andy Mcintyre:
